1893

Bronce relief. 73 cm x 68,5 cm x 3,5 cm (28 3/4 in x 27 in x 1 3/8 in). Signed and inscribed. The design and the dimensions of this work are comparable to the plaster relief we sold at Sotheby's in 2005. The (plaster) relief was first documented on a photograph showing the artist's studio in 1893. Conceived ca. 1893 this bronce cast was possibly executed years after the plaster copy. It is the only existing copy so far. Provenance: The relief had been immured in the garden facade of the Villa Keller in Munich- Bogenhausen (see ill. with the mural visible behind the bench).

Bronze, patinated in black and dark brown. H. ca. 66 cm. Signature: Franz von Stuck. Cast by C. Leyrer (stamped). The "Athlet" was conceived in 1891/92 and is known as the artist's first sculptural works. The first casts were made by C. Leyrer. After ca. 1915 the casts were made by Priesmann, Bauer & Co. Black, white and brown chalk on cardboard. 30,5 x 29 cm. Signed lower right: FRANZ STUCK. On the reverse part of an exhibition sticker from "Große (Berliner) Kunstausstellung 1894 / Gemälde". - Voss 71/421.- The depicted lady is presumed to be Anna Maria Brandmaier who was also model for "Die Sünde". The artist's former mistress was also the mother to his only daughter Mary, born 1896. Comp.: "Weiblicher Studienkopf zur Sünde", Voss 85/413, um 1893.
