Schnackenberg, Walter

Pencil on drawing-paper. 38 x 27,5 cm. Signed lower left. Walter Schnackenberg studied at the Munich Academy with Franz von Stuck and exhibited with the Munich Secession. He travelled through Western Europe and Maroc. In 1908/09 he had a studio at Montparnasse/Paris, where Wilhelm Uhde introduced him to Picasso and his circle. Back in Munich became a popular poster artist. His graphic posters remained untouched when his fine art paintings were banned by the Nazis after 1933. Most of his paintings were destroyed with his studio in a bomb raid in 1944. Therefor free drawings and paintings of the earlier periods are rare on the market.
